Western/Expo is located in a primarily residential and neighborhood in the West Adams District. It is close to MLK Jr. Elementary School and Foshay Learning Center.
The station has "far-side" platforms: this means that the platforms are positioned on opposite sides of the intersection, and trains always stop at the platform after crossing the intersection.
The station's art is being created by artist Ronald J. Llanos. Entitled Ephemeral Views: A Visual Essay, the installation will depict scenes of "the many characters who activate Los Angeles street life." [3]
